In the heart of the Kathmandu valley, in Bhaktapur, a small nursery school with a unique charm welcomes children aged 2 to 6 every day in a serene, bright and caring environment. Baal Shikshya Udhyanfounded in 2017, is inspired by Montessori pedagogy to offer Nepalese children a respectful and fulfilling education.
Since 2025, Helping Hands actively supports this school as part of a programme of educational volunteering in Nepalaimed at Europeans who want to experience a useful, intercultural human adventure.

Baal Shikshya Udhyan was created thanks to Shankar DahalThe founder is committed to and passionate about educational and social development in Bhaktapur. He has created a place of learning rooted in Nepalese values, combining respect for children, educational freedom and the Montessori method.

Your role as a volunteer
By joining this Montessori volunteering in NepalYou will be integrated into the daily life of the school without replacing the teachers. Your duties will include :
Running creative, artistic or language workshops
Participation in Montessori activities
Games, reading, help with meals
Cultural exchanges with the children and the team
No specific training is required, but good contact with children, caring and sincere commitment are essential.
Housing and living environment
Volunteers are housed and fed in the immediate vicinity of the schoolA simple but welcoming setting. In your free time you can explore Bhaktapur, Patan, Kathmandu and the natural and cultural wonders of the valley.

Support from start to finish
Helping Hands is responsible for putting people in touch with Shankar Dahal, providing on-the-spot follow-up and coordination. This programme is not about humanitarian tourism, but rather a a truly reciprocal human experience.
Our objective: making education accessible and appropriateand build bridges between cultures. This Montessori volunteering in Nepal is a simple, practical way of getting involved, learning and sharing.
