🎓 Financing Rojesh's studies in Nepal: a young talent who needs our help

🌟 The story of Rojesh, a journey that commands admiration

For ten years, Helping Hands has been supporting Rojesh.
He lives in Kathmandu, Nepal. His family has never had much money. Without help, he might never have been able to go to school.

When we met him, he was shy and reserved. Yet he dreamed of learning. Thanks to our school sponsorship, we were able to pay for his school fees, books, uniform and meals.

These little things changed everything. They gave him confidence. He started to work very hard. Year after year, he became one of the best students.

What we see today is the fruit of ten years of effort and solidarity. It's proof that with a little help, a child can overcome all barriers.

🥇 A student who stands out for his work and talent

This year, Rojesh finished secondary school with an outstanding result.
He ranked 2ᵉ out of his whole class in the exams. His teachers are very proud.

And the good news continues. Rojesh also passed the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) entrance exam.
This is the best science college in Kathmandu. Many dream of getting in, but few succeed.

This school opens the doors to medical, scientific and technical careers. For Rojesh, it's a unique opportunity.

⚖️ Disparities and inequalities: only the most affluent get to lycée

In Nepal, 20 % of the population live below the poverty line (exemplars.health). Even in state schools, families have to pay for enrolment, uniform, books and travel. A partial grant is not enough, as there are still fees to be paid.

As a result, only children from wealthier families or those who receive external support can really continue at lycée. The others often stop after collège.

Yet the figures give the illusion of a good level: around 89 % of young people in Nepal are enrolled in secondary school (theglobaleconomy.com).
But the reality is harsher. Many of these pupils drop out of school before the end. It's mainly the poorest children who drop out of school because they can't afford the hidden fees.

That's why Rojesh is so valuable. He has the talent and the will. Without us, he might have to give up, like so many others.

💸 Why do we need to finance our studies in Nepal?

🎓 A scholarship, but far too weak.

Rojesh has won a grant thanks to her grades. But it only covers a small part of the costs.
We still have to pay for registration, books, uniform, bus and meals. Her family can't keep up.

At Helping Hands, we therefore chose to fund his two years at NIST.
It's the logical next step after ten years working alongside him. We want him to go all the way.

🔍 A real impact for tomorrow

By helping him, we are investing in a young person who can change his life. And perhaps help other children in the future. That's the whole point of our educational projects.

💬 Rojesh's little word that says it all

When we announced our support, Rojesh wrote:

"This is normal. Thank you so much. Thanks to you, I'll be able to succeed and, later on, reach out in my turn."

He doesn't just dream for himself. He also wants to reach out to others.

Thank you from Rojesh
